What makes up a bunch?

What makes up a bunch? Working in the floral industry, you will know that flowers are sold by the bunch rather than by the stem from wholesalers. This can be confusing for people just beginning their career. You might ask, “Why can’t I purchase a few stems? I do not need very many!” Here at Main Wholesale Florist, we want to answer all your questions including ones that are often taken for granted by professionals.

What makes up a bunch?

A bunch is a collection of stems that are bundled together. Wholesale florists receive flowers from their growers packaged together usually in cellophane or tied together with rubber bands. This isĀ  why wholesalers sell flowers by the bunch to you. Most flowers are packaged together in 10 stem bunches. This is the most common standard quantity. However, there are always exceptions to this rule. For example, roses and carnations are sold and packaged in bunches of 25 stems. Baby’s breath is also packed in grower’s bunches. This means they are bound together by weight and come in bunches of 8-13 stems depending upon which grower they arrive from. Chrysanthemums tend to have 7 stems per bunch as well. Be aware of these facts and you will be prepared when it comes time to replenish the inventory in your shops!
