The end of summer into early fall boasts the most beautiful
sunflowers of the season. As we approach that season, here is an inside look at
all things sunflower!
Sunflowers are native to the U.S. and due to that, a large portion of the sunflowers we sell here at Main Wholesale Florist at this time of year are from local growers. They vary in size and shape but the stems can be up to a whopping 30”! The flower heads themselves range from about 3”-5”. They are usually all yellow or have the traditional brown center that people love so much. They symbolize adoration, loyalty, and longevity which make them wonderful for a wide array of occasions.
Sunflowers are also hardy which makes them a great selection.
They can last up to a week which customers always love. They are also perfect
for a summer or autumn wildflower wedding. These make great accompaniments to
other seasonal, local favorites such as gomphrena, and celosia. Try pairing
them with bright colors such as purple or hot pink!
Sunflowers are celebrated especially around harvest season as they have been for centuries. We love a good sunflower arrangement for fall! Whether you love sunflowers because of their bright, bold color’s or because they symbolize the start of autumn and harvest season, one thing is for sure, you’re not alone in that! Everyone loves sunflowers and with their versatility, it’s not hard to see why.

Baby’s breath or also commonly called gypsophila is one of the most popular filler flowers for retail florists. These blooms have tiny white buds that are clustered on long lush stems. Gysophila represents undying love and romance making them a great selection for wedding design and Valentine’s Day.
Affectionately nicknamed Gyp, this filler can be paired with just about any bloom. Typically paired with roses and leather leaf fern, it is smart to keep this flower readily available in your retail shop.
Florists love baby’s breath mainly because of its versatility and long-lasting vase life. With many varieties and even some spray-tinted blooms, there are endless ways to incorporate baby’s breath into designs for your customers.
Many thought that baby’s breath was on its way out. But recently they have been making a come back into our culture and design. You may find customers requesting it at a higher rate. Soon-to-be brides will bombard you with their Pinterest boards full of baby’s breath mason jar arrangements and table decor chock-full of these pretty petals.
Some of our favorite varieties
Million star is the most widely used and purchased of the baby’s breaths. It has smaller blooms than other varieties with green stalks.
This variety has slightly larger blooms with bright white buds. Pair with roses and hydrangeas for a classic look your customers will love!
Gypsophila overtime has the largest blooms. While still small, these blossoms will add a great punch of white to any floral arrangement.

Alstroemeria wasn’t always a favorite for wholesalers and retail florists. This bloom did not make it to North American until the late 1970s. Alstroemeria, also known as Peruvian Lilies originated from South America with many meanings ranging from friendship to prosperity and fortune.
These wholesale flowers are a favorite for many retail florists and designers due to their versatile nature. They are used in all designs from wedding arrangements to sympathy work to holidays such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. They come in many color variations, with more popping up each year. You can pair alstroemeria with lush blooms such as hydrangeas, football mums, or roses as well as with tropical flowers and greens for an outdoor beach event.
When Alstroemeria was first introduced to North America it was a tough sell. Most just saw the closed blooms and dismissed them. But once bloomed, their intricate coloring and exotic look attracted many new fans. Today, alstroemeria is in very high demand.
Wholesale Alstroemeria is also an extremely cost-effective choice for floral arrangements. Their stems have multiple blooms per stem, meaning a small amount will go a long way. They also have a very long vase life which can range from 14 to almost 20 days. That is incredible! Being that these blooms are readily available year-round, it is no wonder that they are so beloved for all design types.
Want to learn more about this fabulous product? Here at Main Wholesale Florist, we offer a wide variety of Alstroemeria in many different colors. Visit our New Jersey and New York locations to see our offerings in person and to ask your sales representative any questions that you may have.
